DWA Composite Specialties, Inc. produces metal‑matrix composites (MMCs) that are available in both continuously reinforced and discontinuously reinforced forms. Its discontinuously reinforced aluminum (DRA) line relies on ceramic particulate reinforcement, creating a family of customizable MMCs. By varying the proportion of silicon carbide (SiC) particles within the aluminum matrix alloy, DWA’s DRA grades achieve markedly higher strength and stiffness compared with conventional aluminum, while preserving a low density. These high specific‑property materials enable structural weight reductions and enhanced performance across a range of applications.
