The treatment is applied to new tooling and to restored components, where it slows the onset of heat checking, seals cracks that have already formed, eliminates surface inclusions and removes polish marks. By converting residual tensile stresses into compressive stresses, the micro‑textured surface improves lubricity, retains lubricant, and promotes smoother molten‑metal flow while lowering gate erosion.
