Material inputs to resolve
Integrated steelmaking, scrap, slag, water systems and responsible steel supply
JSW Steel's FY2024-25 Integrated Report states that nearly 100% of waste generated was utilised, all operational sites maintained Zero Liquid Discharge, and specific water consumption was 2.35 cubic metres per tonne of crude steel against a 2030 target of 2.21. The report also describes a steel-slag road at Dolvi and ResponsibleSteel certification covering more than 80% of primary steel production in India. Public reporting does not establish one site-level mass balance tying slag, water, steel output, product grade and downstream buyer evidence together.
34.2 MTPA Domestic crude-steel capacity in the FY2024–25 report, including 1.7 MTPA under commissioning at that reporting date
2.35 m³/tcs FY2025 specific water consumption
2.21 m³/tcs 2030 specific water consumption target
Nearly 100% Waste utilisation reported for FY2024-25
- Iron ore, coal, scrap, limestone, dolomite, alloys, refractories, water and energy
- Sinter, coke, hot metal, steelmaking and rolling inputs
- Slag, dust, mill scale, wastewater and other process residuals to characterize; the cited sources do not establish external availability
Outputs and residuals to resolve
- Flat and long steel products, downstream components and customer-specific grades
- Steel slag, dust, sludge, mill scale, wastewater and emissions
- Stream-level quality, destination, avoided virgin input and product allocation remain open
First decision: Choose one JSW Steel plant and one stream, starting with slag or water. Map origin, process, quality gate, reuse route, product output and destination evidence.
Scale signal
JSW Steel's FY2024–25 Integrated Report lists 34.2 MTPA of domestic crude-steel capacity, including 1.7 MTPA under commissioning at the reporting date. This is not a current-capacity or production figure. FY2024–25 Integrated Report
Water signal
The FY2024-25 report states 2.35 cubic metres per tonne of crude steel and a 2030 target of 2.21.
Circularity signal
JSW reports nearly 100% waste utilisation and describes a steel-slag road at Dolvi developed with CRRI, which still requires stream-specific qualification.
Certification signal
The FY2024-25 report says more than 80% of primary steel production in India came from ResponsibleSteel-certified sites.
Decision boundary
The public record supports one bounded next move: Choose one JSW Steel plant and one stream, starting with slag or water. Map origin, process, quality gate, reuse route, product output and destination evidence. It does not establish a buyer, commercial approval or supply agreement.
Material flow map
| Material or stream | Qualification gate | Process or destination | Evidence still needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Steel slag | Chemistry, expansion, leachability and consistency | Road, cement or aggregate use | Lot, test, route and buyer specification |
| Wastewater | Quality, treatment, reuse and discharge boundary | Cooling, process or horticulture reuse | Volume, quality, reuse point and ZLD record |
| Scrap and mill scale | Grade, contamination, sorting and yield | Steelmaking or external recovery | Source, preparation, melt yield and output grade |
This is a public screening map. It separates company-disclosed flows from open qualification work. It does not convert a destination into a buyer or an announced ambition into operating capacity.
Three defensible entry lanes
Turn slag utilisation into a product record
A reuse percentage becomes durable when the output clears a specification and replaces a defined virgin material.
Next evidence: Select plant, slag lot, test protocol, product, buyer and avoided aggregate or clinker.
Make Zero Liquid Discharge measurable
ZLD is a system boundary. The decision needs the water stream, treatment step, reuse point and quality.
Next evidence: Select plant, process, baseline, treatment, reuse, residuals and watershed context.
Join scrap to grade economics
Scrap is not interchangeable. Chemistry, contamination and melt yield determine its value.
Next evidence: Select scrap source, preparation, furnace, grade, yield and customer requirement.

Source hierarchy: filings and company disclosures first. The brief states what those sources support and leaves the unresolved plant, grade, permit, buyer and mass-balance questions explicit.
Material Transition editorial interpretation
The FY2024–25 report describes group-level waste-utilization and Zero Liquid Discharge disclosures, alongside a Dolvi steel-slag road project. These disclosures do not establish a site-level mass balance or general external material availability; site and stream evidence must be assessed separately.

FY2024–25 report's domestic crude-steel capacity figure, including capacity under commissioning at that reporting date. It is a dated capacity figure, not current capacity or production. Other water targets must retain their exact reporting-period and metric definitions.
